For Italian/American artist Nicola Carpinelli the brush is just one of many vehicles for self expression.
Paintings representative of his unique perception of the world combined with unusual materials make for very interesting interpretations. Carpinelli paintings often incorporate the political graffiti that is prominent in Spain and Latin American countries.
In his own career these reoccurring themes, along with the artist’s combination of impulsiveness and tangible iconography, lend themselves to the classification of Neo abstract expressionist. This remarkably imaginative artist embellishes on both the tangible and subconscious worlds, effectively weaving the two, in thought-provoking detail. Never short on words in any of three languages, the artist is a musician, chef, philanthropist and all too obvious extrovert.
Born in Hollywood in 1965 of Italian decent, this eclectic artist spent most of his time on the West Coast. He credits his many travels to Europe and Latin America as having a profound influence on his painting. However, he does not credit his more formal training as an art student as either inspiring or favorably influencing. When asked to comment on his work he says "for me painting is love… other emotions, ups and downs, and everything in between. Love and pain are the catalyst - love is the color and pain is the brush. The rest is synchronicity.”
“It took me over 10 years to genuinely free myself from the encumbrances instilled in me as a result of my formal training in Spain and America. I believe strongly that artist should break through the barriers of a sometimes closed-minded world. I learned more about painting by walking the streets in Spain and Italy.”
